Paper or Plastic?

As I prepare for my first craft show, I have to take care of all the details in a short time. I need tables, displays, a way to haul my stuff around, inventory and the list goes on. One of the things I've struggled with is bags. I need bags for my monsters. It is really cheap to get a lot of plastic bags, but I try to not use them because of their environmental impact. Paper bags are a better choice, but more expensive and heavier. I spent hours scouring the web looking at different suppliers and prices. In the end, I have decided to go with paper bags, even though the cost is more than doubled. I expect to be visited and hugged by a bunch of trees very soon.

I think and always have thought, that paper is better. It breaks down better, faster. It is easier to recycle. Doesn't require oil by-products to make it. All in all paper, is good. Especially if the company is re-planting trees etc. Which I think they all do, as it's in their best interest to do so. I think you made a wise choice. Good luck at the fair!! Happy selling. Can't wait to hear all about it.
HUGS! Heather :)

i'm hauling off to the farmers market with my canvas. i am always personally appalled by the use of plastics there. we are actively shunning a vendor that uses jumbo styrofoam cups to serve fresh lemonade and tea in. gross. the only truly organic farmer uses corn starch bags, but those are visually confusing. one international company stopped using them and switched back to paper because people were affronted by their plastic appearance.

you can always haul some markers and stamps so that 'kids' can decorate their bags while others shop.

I think you made the best choice, too. It would be nice to use plastic, or if you could, the corn starch see-through bags so that your monsters could be advertising throughout the festival. But being eco-conscious is good advertising, too. And you might be pleasantly surprised at how many shoppers will have their own canvas bags, or bags from other vendors, to put their new monsters in-- so maybe you won't have to buy more for the next show...

Did you try Nashville Wraps for bags? I also like to use paper bags for customers. The prices there are pretty decent.

I think that is a great idea. I don't know if you have enough time or energy after all the other things you are doing... but.. it would be so cute if you made a foam stamp that looked like your monster with your stores name on it and stamped them!! Maybe you are already doing that or are WAY ahead of me.. I'm sure! LOL!! Again, I'm very proud of you and I hope you have a very successful time!

I want to do the stamp thing! I don't have time for this show, but after I hope to get that done. I like that idea a lot.
