Brown Food I Eat Monday: Poutine
Poutine! Oh my is it good. I was rambling on about making it on facebook and the fabulous Johnp at I-40 Kitchen sent me a link to a french frying method using cold oil to start. Since I'm getting all Mofo this month, I thought I would give it a go.
The fries turned out well and the gravy is from Bryanna Clark Grogan's new book World Vegan Feast and is super simple to whip up. She has a poutine curd recipe, but I had some Daiya to use up and went with that instead.
Here's an extra close up of a pile of brown food.

Now I want poutine for supper!
I have never had poutine and every time I see one of your posts I want it. That will be happening soon. I'm curious though, what kind of flavor are the cheese curds: mild or tangy? Trying to figure what to use for them.
Another beautiful brown food installment!
Fries and gravy sound very good. I'd love to try some of these.
I wish poutine was American so that I could include it in next weeks football food Sunday! Next year I might need to get into hockey!
Those fries look perfect! Wow. And I have made that gravy a million times since. Well, a good five times.
Also I am dying of excitement at the prospect of Jojo getting into hockey.
This looks insane. Wantwant. Brown food!
I'm down with the brown!
i've never had poutine and i must make this happen! totally gonna check out that cooking method starting with cold oil. thanks, Panda - your brown foods are the best!
Dawn, I think the curds are somewhat tangy but not overly so. I don't know how authentic are the poutines I have had, so others might know better. If you can get the Bryanna recipe from her new book, I bet it is good.
I seriously ordered World Vegan Feast just for the poutine recipe, I figured everything beyond that is just gravy.
Brown Food = Best Food.
I want this poutine more than anything in this world
I have no idea what poutine is, but this looks like what us Brits would eloquently refer to as "cheesy chips". I could totally go for it, though. Yum.
Oh my YES!
